How to: backwash the media filter

This guidance is for: SPA Grade models which are identifiable by the filtration type.  Your SPA grade unit will have a large media filter unit.

  • Never allow pump to run dry and don’t remove more than 2/3 of water whilst in back wash position. Always ensure the chiller fuse spur is the first and final step of the process.
  • Always open the filling tap to the plunge before opening the water main
  • Always turn the water main off before turning the filling tap back into the closed position.

 

 

  1. Turn off chiller fuse spur power supply.

  2. Depress and turn filter handle clockwise to waste position. Ensure there is water flow to backwash waste pipe.

  3. Depress and turn filter handle clockwise to the backwash position.

  4. Wait until the water reduces by 2/3 and 1/3 left in the bath.

  5. Depress and turn filter handle anti clockwise to waste position for 20-30 seconds.

  6. Turn off bath fuse spur power supply.

  7. Turn the blue tap through 90 degrees that is below the water main, note – they are numbered for which plunge you are filling.

  8. Turn the water main tap on and fill bath so its halfway to the skimmer in the bath.

  9. Once filled – turn water main off first, then turn the blue handle tap (associated with the bath you are filling) to its original position.

  10. Turn filter handle anti clockwise to back wash position.

  11. Turn bath power back on at fuse spur on back wall.

  12. Go to bath and visually check that the light is illuminated, and you can see water flowing inside the bath.

  13. Finally, once the above is completed and checked there is no water flow from the backwash waste pipe and turn the chiller fuse spur back on.
