Maintaining your bath

A clean Monkey is a happy Monkey. To keep you and your bath healthy, your bath requires some regular care

Importance of regular maintenance

The bath has a dual stage filtration system consisting of a particle filter and a UV filter. The water constantly circulates through both of these. The particle filter's job is to keep the water clear and the UV’s is able to remove most pathogens. If there is a blockage in the flow due to lack of cleaning you will find the bath will not work efficiently; the water will stop circulating and it will become dirty.

Frequency

Frequency Action
Weekly Wipe down the steel above the water line / the top deck and the underside of the leatherette cover
Every 4 weeks Replace the particle filter
Every 3 months Replace the water
Every 6 months Replace the bulb in the UV filter
Every 6 months Full system flush
The frequency at which you will need to change the particle filter and the water depends on usage (no of dips per day) and how much bacteria and debris is taken into the bath (e.g. sweat or dirty feet). The frequencies in the table above is based on 1 daily user.

Wipe down

Some simple and frequent TLC can help avoid bigger cleaning tasks or issues.

  • Wipe down the steel above the water line using a clean damp microfibre cloth.  A guide on cleaning the stainless steel can be found here.
  • Wipe down the leatherette cover, especially if outside, with a clean cloth. If dirty, you can also use a standard, neutral pH household cleaning product.
  • Check all the vents are clean and clear of debris
  • Clear the pre-filter that sits over the suction hole inside the bath. Using a clean cloth, reach into the water to catch any debris caught on the pre-filter. By doing this, the water will flow smoothly and maintain good quality. If the pre-filter becomes clogged, the water quality will deteriorate and the flow of water may be affected. In severe cases, the water flow may even stop completely if the pre-filter is blocked.
Pre-filter

Replace the particle filter

The particle filter removes sediment & microscopic debris. Frequently changing this filter is key to keeping your Brass Monkey in good working order.

How to change a particle filter

Got a v2.0 bath? The filters and housing for this version are a little different. Follow the v2.0 filter replacement instructions. Unsure? Understand which version you have

Replace the water

While the particle filter and UV filter work hard to keep your water clean, a full water change is recommended every 3 months.

Whilst the bath is empty, clean the bath with either bicarbonate of soda or a neutral pH cleaner such as diluted washing up liquid.  Rinse the sides and base and wipe dry with a clean microfibre cloth.

Replace the bulb in the UV filter

For optimal removal of viruses and bacteria from the water, we recommend replacing this bulb every 6 months.

Full system flush

Every 6 months we recommend a full system flush to remove the build up of bio film and bacteria from the system.

Using an internal system flush (we recommend a product like Lo-Chlor) follow the cleaning product manufacturer’s instructions to flush out the whole system.

This typically involves:

  • Filling the bath with chemical cleaning fluid, leaving for 24 hours.
  • Draining and refilling your bath multiple times to ensure all cleaning fluids are removed from the system before use.

Please note. Always follow the cleaning product manufacturer’s instructions
