Operator Guidance

We believe that your No.1 priority as a commercial operator is the health and safety of your customers.  This guide looks at ways of managing and maintaining good standards of water hygiene and controlling levels of dangerous waterborne bacteria.

The risks to the health of your customers primarily come from waterborne bacteria such as E. coli, coliforms, pseudomonas and one of the greatest threats that the sector has to deal with – the chlorine-resistant pathogen Cryptosporidium.

Regular maintenance is essential to ensure the health of your Brass Monkey and the safety of its users.  We recommend the following protocol as a minimum guidance.

The Brass Monkey unit is a small body of water that has potential for high usage, making it more susceptible to bacterial contamination. It is crucial to balance the number of users with routine testing and adjustments using the appropriate chemicals to maintain water balance.

Understanding the Brass Monkey's robust 4 stage water filtration system:

STAGE 1 Pre Filter

The pre-filter catches debris from the water before it passes to the next stage.

STAGE 2 80 Micron Mesh Filter

The 80 micron mesh filter unit effectively traps solid sediment, which, when rinsed regularly, helps extend the lifespan of the particle filter and keeps the water clear of debris.

STAGE 3 20 Micron Particle Filter This secondary filter collects the finer particles in the water down to 20 microns
STAGE 4 UV Light  This powerful unit uses latest UV technology to help eliminate dangerous microorganisms such as cryptosporidium, adenoviruses and naegleria fowleri.

Wet area risk assessment

Our guidelines are a recommendation of the minimum requirement.  It is essential that you conduct a wet area risk assessment to determine the frequency of water sampling and testing required in your unique situation, establishing a bather load to water testing ratio. Regularly review this ratio based on the number of individuals using the Brass Monkey unit.

Commercial Grade How to: setup the bath

Safety first

  • Leave your bath unplugged until the setup is complete and you are instructed to power up.
  • Your power socket must be earthed and RCD protected. Under no circumstances should you ever use an adaptor or extension lead.
  • Primary protection should be within your home’s electrical circuit.
  • Only use this product if you feel well and physically capable. Consult your doctor if you are unsure.
  • This product is not for children. Always ensure small children are supervised near the bath.

Step one: Check the power socket

Your bath has been individually tested for safety before leaving our workshop. However, we can’t account for where the units are plugged in. This is why we ask you invest a few minutes to double-check the safety of the power socket you intend to use to power your Brass Monkey.

It is your responsibility to ensure your ice bath is plugged into a socket with:

  • an earthed electrical supply
  • 30mA RCD (residual current device) protection

If you are unsure, speak to an electrician before going any further. Under no circumstances should you ever use an adaptor or extension lead. If you need a power socket closer, speak to an electrician.

Step two: Check your bath’s position

Before commencing setup, check you have your bath in the correct position:

Surface: Your bath is heavy, especially when full of water. It needs to be sat on a hard and flat surface capable of holding 750kg+.

Ventilation: Your bath has vents on 2 sides, these will need to sit 30cm clear of any obstruction to allow the air to flow.

Water: Your bath will need filling with fresh tap water (never fill from a swimming pool or other water source), so make sure your bath is placed in reach of a hose.

Signal: Your bath comes ready to be connected to your Wifi network. It will need to sit within range of a strong 2.4Ghz Wifi signal on a private home network.

Step three: Install the pre filter and particle filter

Step four: Fill your bath

You can now use a hose to fill your bath with clean tap water.

Stop at 3cm above the return flow hole.

Stopping here allows for some water displacement when you get in.

Fill level 3cm-png

Step five: Power up

Plug your bath directly into an RCD protected & earthed socket and turn the power on at the socket.

Your control panel will now light up and display the current temperature.

You’ll hear your bath start to pump the water.

What-the-controls-do

Your bath is up and running!

It can take up to 24 hours to cool the water down to your target temperature.

See bath controls to learn how to set the temperature.

Use the app to connect your bath to wifi. Instructions are found here

Commercial Grade How to: Replace the filter

The commercial grade bath comes equipped with two filters to keep your bath clean:

The first filter, with a mesh size of 80 microns, is designed to trap larger debris.

The second filter, with a 20 micron particle size, is perfect for capturing smaller particles such as skin, oil, and dirt.

To carry out a filter change, follow these steps:

  1. Enter maintenance mode by pressing and holding the Ice Boost button for 3 seconds
  2. Isolate the main filtration unit using the isolation valves by turning the two blue handles 90 degrees clockwise to the of position
  3. Remove the filter housing by using the provided spanner starting with the one closest to you, and then proceed to remove the plastic filter housings one at a time.  Beware you may experience some water loss whilst changing the filter
  4. Empty the water and dirty filters from the filter housings.  You can now clean and sanitise the housings using an anti-bacterial solution
  5. Rinse the 80 micron mesh filter and refit into the clean filter housing using the green filter locater.  This can now be replaced onto the fitting furthest away from you
  6. Replace the 20 micron particle filter with a clean fresh one and rinse out the used one until clean
  7. When re-fitting ensure the large O ring on the filter housing is in place and tighten the filter housings with the plastic spanner provided until secure.
  8. Open the isolation valves again, 90 degrees anti clockwise to the open position.
  9. Ensure that the filter housing fills with water.
